OK, so here's a bit about my background:I've recently launched my Israel-based Green Marketing business called BarKayama(tm). I know, BarKayama sounds Japanese, but actually, it means "Sustainable", in Hebrew! ברקיימאI need to thank my parents, first generation Americans --born to daring eastern-European immigrant parents (my grandparents) who came to the USA between the two World Wars-- for who I am. Thanks to my parents' broad, open-minded education and their brave move to Israel when I was 9, I am:fluently bilingual (English-Hebrew)completely multicultural and proud of my American-European-Jewish-Israeli heritagetraditional and avant-guardeartistic and science-orientedalive in all possible senses, aware and sensitive to my surroundings and learning new things every day.I was:born in the USA (well, Brooklyn, NY anyway) in '61 and moved with my parents to Israel at the age of 9. I moved back to Silicon Valley, CA for 3 years to get my MBA in Itn'l Marketing, after getting a couple of undergrad degrees from Tel Aviv U in Econ, Poli-Sci and Geography (didn't have enough money to take History, Architecture and Archeology, too!)an International Marketing Manager for about 15 years, including in 6 tech startups (one of them my own, focused on Internet Video, way before there was such a thing) (That's when I finally and truly grasped the meaning of "Timing is Everything"...)in over 30 different countries, most of them from pure addiction to traveling, a few for businessA few things I can and like to do, but don't always find the time to do...:speak French, Spanish and limited, but some, Italiansing and play the guitarcarve artistic relief in woodride my old but trusty mountain bikeswim in the Mediterranean Seawork in my organic gardenclimb up a mountain or hike down a dry wadi-bedexplore old, run-down buildings and archeological sitesplay with children (I have three girls of my own: Ages 15, 14 and 2 months!)A few words about Green Stuff in Israel: For many reasons and excuses, Israel is not that big (double meaning!) on infrastructure and environmental implementations, locally. For example, we are just getting into post-consumer recycling, legally required. But in other ways, Israel is rather advanced. There are quite a few interesting things going on here on the environmental technology and reasearch & development side of things. Lots of innovation happening in the areas of Water, Energy (especially Solar) and Bio/Agri tech to mention a few. Also, being stuck way out here and being closely related in many ways to Asia (Mid-East and Far East), to Europe and to Africa, Israel is a crossroads of sorts for lots of global goings-on in the ecology and environment fronts. This Desert Flower: Israel’s Negev Desert

This desert flower / No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this –Sting “The desert is in full bloom! You just have to go see it!” I’ve been hearing too much of this for a few weeks now, from my chronically infected wanderlust stricken neighbors, who are simply unable to spend even a single weekend here in our quaint, green suburban Ra’anana. “Sure”, I thought, “You mean you think that I [...]
