Will this solve all of our problems on earth? Just imagine just to use water to fill up your car.

Kanzius, 63, invented a machine that emits radio waves in an attempt to kill cancerous cells while leaving normal cells intact. While testing his machine, he noticed that his invention had other unexpected abilities. Filling a test tube with salt water from a canal in his back yard, Kanzius placed the tube and a paper towel in the machine and turned it on. Suddenly, the paper towel ignited, lighting up the tube like it was a wax candle.

Waterless urinals have been mentioned on Green Options before (here and here) but a recent innovation has earned them a brand new entry. As those who've used one can attest to, they usually aren't pleasant to the nose, but now Carome has brought out a new odorless model: the H2Zero. Waterless urinals save the average office 2.3 million litres of water a year, and now people might not get nauseous using them!

The H2Zero™ Cube waterless urinal operates utilising unique patented cartridge technology that doesn't use an oil-based seal as used in traditional waterless urinals. Housed within the cartridge the Bio Fresh deodorising block is activated during use, while the Bio Seal™ allows urine to pass through the seal freely. The Bio Seal™ acts as a one-way air-tight valve to seal the cartridge from the drainage system and against back-pressure situations. This operation guarantees consistently superior performance and hygiene compared to other waterless urinals.

“Oops!,” directed by Travis Darcy, is the Grand Prize winner and winner of the Audience Vote of the SFIFF50 GreenWorld Contest. Oops-there goes the world. Besides being a filmmaker, I am also a mom and a teacher. I wanted to make this crucial topic accessible to all ages. Humor is a great teaching tool.

UPM Forest is a website which takes you by the hand and leads you through a virtual forest. Just visiting this flash-generated environment and listening to the woodland sounds will relax you. I've considered opening the site and allowing the birds to chirp in the background.

But it's not just relaxing. While walking through the forest, you'll learn about modern forestry, and also be spoiled with loads of information and videos about plants, animals, berries, etc.

I'm totally pumped and ready to run out and spend a couple of hours in a real forest.

Link: Virtual Forest

Be patient: the site has recently become popular, so the loading time can be long. You might have to try couple of times before you will gain access.

It's a good thing that I can't afford this camera. It'd probably be fine here in Ireland, but just imagine using it in NYC or any other big city.

You can now buy a camera that can detect greenhouse gases. Infrared-imaging company FLIR Systems recently revealed the GasfindIR-LW, a thermal imaging camera that can detect sulfur hexalfouride SF6 and 20 other environmentally perilous gasses. If you ever wanted to hunt down acetylchloride; allyl flouride; or Freons 11, 12, 112, 113, or 114, the GasfindIR-LW is just the device you need.

Editor's note: If I remember correctly, sulfur hexafluoride was my high school chemistry teacher's favorite prank (other than dribbling a bowling ball in the classroom). It does the opposite of helium when you inhale it; your voice gets very deep and scary. Not that he wasn't scary anyway…

The evaporating clay fridge is clever, cheap and does no harm to nature. Why can't more technology these days follow its example?

This smart preservation device for foodstuffs was invented in 1995 by Nigerian engineer Mohammed Bah Abba. The Pot-in-pot cooler consists of a small earthenware pot nestling inside a larger one with wet sand filling the space in between. As the water in the wet sand evaporates, it extracts heat from contents of the inner pot thus cooling them. The pot cooler is one of many clever ideas shown at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York in its in "Design for the other 90%" exhibition opening 4 May 2007.

Editor's note: We're happy to welcome Juergen Horn on board as our newest writer. Juergen is a photographer and blogger who publishes Random Good Stuff and Ireland Blog.

Loreme is a company based in Munich, Germany and if I had only three words to describe them I would choose "Simple, Clever & Fun". With their latest invention "Loremeo" they created a really beatiful and affordable car with a starting price of $14,976.

Concept:

How expensive will petrol become? How valuable is the environment to us, really?
Why do we need 1.5 tons of steel to get an 80 kg person from A to B?

While trying to answer these questions we developed a concept which ensures mobility for everyone also in the future: Loremo = low resistance mobile!

The cars of the future will have to be more efficient, which means less consumption of resources during production and operation. Loremo stands for this efficiency.

It's a simple idea: Weight and air resistance are decisive for fuel consumption of vehicles. Reducing these factors will reduce consumption. And the more you reduce the more efficient you will drive.
Lightness instead of mass: a principle which has proven reliable for generations in the fields of sports.

Simple:

Loremo offers functionality in a most confined space, versatility and simple handling. And with a consumption of 1.5 litres per 100 km Loremo is not only friendly to the environment but also good for your purse.

Clever:

As a sports car, Loremo offers the pleasure of driving with "added value" and defines a pioneering - because sustainable - philosophy of life - and all this at a sensationally nice price!

and finally: FUN!
