Splash Star Darryl Hannah Joins Extreme Anti-Whaling Group Seen on Animal Planet

Darryl Hannah, who once played a mermaid, will be joining the hard-line anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd on their annual chase of Japanese whaling ships. Sea Shepherd is the focus of an Animal Planet Series,

“Whale Wars”.

Hannah will be joining Sea Shepherd on their flagship, the Steve Irwin, as they left yesterday to chase down Japanese whalers and attempt to use non-violent means to stop the whaling. Sea Shepherd is known for their hard-line stance against whaling and for their pirate-like tactics. They have in the past been labeled “eco-terrorists” and confrontations between whaling ships and the Steve Irwin have sometimes turned violent.

The former 3rd Rock from the Sun star released the ad, which reads “Don’t Get Taken for a Ride, Horse-Drawn Carriages are Cruel, last week. The ad features Johnson naked on a horse.

Celebrities like Nicole Richie Walk the ‘Green Carpet’ at Environmental Media Awards

Nicole Richie, Rosario Dawson and more celebrities came together to award the Simpsons and 30 Rock for promoting environmental concerns in their entertainment efforts.

The Environmental Media Awards have been presented since 1991 and launched the concept of the “green carpet”. The awards go to TV shows, movies and musicians that use their entertainment role to promote environmental concerns. The awards, which were presented this year on November 13, also promote an eco-friendly awards gala and organic food.

With environmentalism becoming the norm, the Environmental Media Awards have gone mainstream with stars like Nicole Richie, Rosario Dawson and Amy Smart (wearing an eco-friendly black gown) walking the green carpet.

Heather Mills Using a Pool-Full of Water

The ex-wife of Sir Paul McCartney, Heather Mills, continues to fight with local authorities over a pool she built without permission.

In a time of water shortage for many parts of the world, the 40 ft x 22 ft pool — built on top of a former vegetable garden — is stirring up controversy in Mills’ English country home.

Art or Animal? Louis Vuitton Tattooed Pigs Banned from Art Exhibit

Eight pigs that were tatooed with the trademark Louis Vuitton logo are being banned from a modern art exhibit in Shanghai over animal rights concerns.

Belgium artist Wim Delvoye is known for controversial art projects such as an installation that produces feces and an exhibit where he had friends paint their body parts with barium and have sex while x-rays were taken and later displayed.

How do David Beckham and Posh Spice stay look so, well, posh? Bird Poo, it turns out, gives the soccer star and Spice Girl glowing skin.

Does it get any more ‘natural’ then that?

Victoria Beckham, the former Posh Spice, has recently begun using Geisha Facials, made from nightingale droppings, to combat the acne she’s had since she was a teenager. And now David Beckham, the LA Galaxy star, is getting into the bird poo too.

Because, people, it takes more than just 6 inch heels to look this good.

No Gas in North Carolina; Gas Stations Closed

For two weeks in the end of September, there was no gas to be found in the county surrounding Asheville, North Carolina and most of the gas stations remained closed.

The recent hurricanes are being blamed for shutting down the nation’s gas supply by up to 22%. But the problem remained far worse in this region of North Carolina.

Even over a week after the main pipeline to the East Coast, the Colonial pipeline, had reopened, gas remained scarce and there were few answers as to why.

PETA and X-Files’ Agent Scully Urge Tom Cruise to Boycott Armani Fur

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has teamed up with X-Files star Gillian Anderson (Agent Scully) to urge celebrities, such as Tom Cruise and Heidi Klum, to boycott designer Giorgio Armani, who they are accusing of going back on his word to stop using fur.

PETA sent letters to a number of celebrities who have worn Armani in the past urging them to boycott the designer. In the letter to Tom Cruise, PETA’s Vice President made particular note of Cruise’s daughter, Suri, saying:

“Please be vigilant about any packages that Armani sends for Suri, as they could include bunny fur from his toddler lines.”

This US News headline – ‘Is MTV Being Hypocritical?’ — may seem a little obvious. But, this time, the mixed messages aren’t about body image issues or consumerism. The hypocrisy is about the environment.

At the same time that people are praising the channel for bashing green-washing with their Switch campaign, the crews of MTV are taking part in some green-washing of their own. Hmm, hypocrisy about hypocrisy?

Jenny McCarthy Goes Too Good with Her Non-Toxic Children’s Line

Though Jenny McCarthy may have hit it big originally for her bad girl image, now she wants to go good. Too Good.

McCarthy signed with Brand Sense Partners to launch a children’s lifestyle line, Too Good by Jenny, next Spring. The line will be focused on providing children with safe, non-toxic surroundings.

Ever since McCarthy’s son, Evan, was diagnosed with autism in 2005, the star has taken a very holistic, earth-friendly approach towards raising him. She wants her line to reflect these beliefs with non-toxic linens, toys, cleaning products and gluten-free food and drinks.

While organic and non-toxic children’s wear has been finding a market in high-end boutiques, McCarthy’s line will be sold primarily at mid-tier stores with an emphasis on affordability for all parents.

Not Too Pretty: Organic Cosmetics Make a Compact

While we may not be using arsenic as a cosmetic anymore, the make-up we put on (almost) every day can still have punishing and dangerous chemicals. Of course, there are organic and safer versions. But, why not demand an overhaul of the industry?

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is working to get rid of dangerous chemicals in the cosmetics we use.
