Ocean Conservancy Holds US Responsible for Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning

This week we’re on the topic of saving endangered sea life, and now is the best time to take action with the Ocean Conservancy!

The Obama Administration has a newly formed Ocean Policy Task Force that’s accelerating a planning process for our glorious ocean and coasts.

Since it’s up to us to make sure these plans maintain, protect, revive and restore the health of the sea sustainably, I also sent the message below to the Obama Administration and the National Ocean Policy Task Force. If we get these simple and straitforward letters to them before the February 12 deadline we’ll help lock in our country’s commitment to take action to ensure comprehensive, responsible ocean planning that holds us accountable in preserving a healthy marine environment for the planet.

Here is the letter we’re sending to President Obama and the Ocean Policy Task Force:

Saving BioGems : False Killer Whales Still in Danger in Hawaii

Last season NRDC announced it’s mission to save the Hawaiian island’s Whales, and now that this decision is facing the president we’re asking the Obama Administration to protect Hawaii’s false killer whales under the Endangered Species Act because the loss of even a few whales could endanger the survival of the entire population. These whales are among the most imperiled wildlife in the Hawaiian Islands with only 120 of them alive today.

Help grant federal protection to Hawaii’s coastal population of false killer whales. Shown below is one of my letters urging the Obama Administration to protect Hawaii’s false killer whales.

New Coco Eco Up for February

Shown above and below is a little inspiration from the following features in the new February issue of Coco Eco:

1. On page 16 there’s a spread on Libertine recycled clothing. It’s fierce, and concludes with a fantastic interview with the designer Johnson Hartig through page 29.

2. Check out Coco Eco’s Guide to Sydney, Australia on page 79 too.

3. Turn to page 105 and learn more about how the latest Opportunity Green event went.

Long Life Elixir : Try Swedish Bitters to Heal Everything from Heartburn to Pneumonia

Have you ever heard of Swedish Bitters? It is a five hundred year old healing remedy. The elixir is known to help strengthen the vital organs, soothe the stomach, as well as support healthy liver function. This remedy strengthens fascia too by helping support connective tissue by improving the function of body fluids, and the transport of nutrients, thereby fortifying and rejuvenating the immune system.

Thanks to the advice of a very wise, medically intuitive friend, I happily discovered this time tested remedy. It promotes sleep, purifies the blood, speeds wound healing, heals many skin irritations, aches, remedies indigestion, combats pneumonia, soothes heartburn, and so much more. Wow, what is this elixir not known for?

The Swedish Bitters formula is made from the combination of these healing herbs:

Cinnamon (bark)
Cardamon (fruit)
Saffron (pistil)
Manna (stem)
Angelica (root)
Aloe (leaves)
Rhubarb (root)
Senna (leaves)
Myrrh (stem)
Carline Thistle (root)
Rhizoma Cimicfugae
Valerian (root)
Zedoary (root)
Camphor

Historically, this incredible 500-year-old herbal formula has cured more than forty-five medical conditions. So, I am very pleased to discover it and share it’s heritage.

Open Umbrellas of Love to Heal Surviving Haitians

Stormy weather abound, the people in Haiti need healing help more than ever. The song Umbrella has been on my mind lately as it’s been rainy here in San Francisco. As I was humming the lyrics the above rose print umbrella showed up with a mission! Unique Vintage is holding an umbrella sale to lend some help to the Haitians dealing with the aftermath of last week’s earthquake.

Burbank California based vintage-inspired boutique and online store Unique Vintage is donating twenty percent of sales from their umbrella collection to the American Red Cross from now through the end of January.

Wildlife Works for the Holidays

Imagine, finding stylish organic holiday gifts while conserving endangered habitats this season. Wildlife Works apparel makes this idea possible. As we’ve noted in seasons past each and every time you buy a Wildlife Works product, you help to build a brighter future for endangered wildlife and their habitats. We call it “Consumer Powered Conservationism”

Wildlife Works actively place large areas of wilderness under conservation, providing jobs for the people who share their land and resources with wildlife, plus finding ways for them send their children to school, and feed their families without destroying animals and their habitats.

WW uses the proceeds of purchases to protect endangered African wildlife. Shown below is a comfortable ensemble I put together.

Holiday Oatmeal, Cranberry, Apple Morning Bowl

Chances are, that delicious cranberry sauce you enjoyed on Thanksgiving has not expired, and works great with oatmeal!

Try this easy recipe:

-1/2 cup oatmeal

- a pinch of cinnamon

- sliced organic apples

- leftover cranberry sauce

To me, morning bowls like this taste better than cookies and go down better with tea or coffee than a danish or muffin.

As I’ve mentioned before, oatmeal is a favorite breakfast of mine. Oatmeal has an abundance of health benefits, containing nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium, iron, selenium, and zinc.

Exotic San Francisco Ferry Building Farmer’s Market Finds

The San Francisco Ferry Market is a local favorite for unusual organic finds. My favorite recent find: pineapple guava (a.k.a. feijoa)! I found this refreshing salad fruit at the Mc Evoy Ranch stand.

Shown above is an organic cilantro salad with the feijoa and myer lemon. This delightful salad needs no pairing although the guava has a tart flavor that pairs well with mesculin greens.

Gathering together individual ingredients for a couple dollars at each vendor, has me spicing up dishes with organic produce.

Dune Architect Transforms Desert Sand into Dwellings for the Green Wall Sahara Shelterbelt

Get Adobe Flash player
Above, creative architecture student Magnus Larsson shares his incredible idea to help settlers along the harsh Sahara desert. His proposed process of re-structuring sand is a building material process already researched for helping strengthen earthquake prone land with sustainable bacteria that turns shifting sand into a solid mass.

Looks like Larsson is creating sandcastles out of desert land. Brilliant! His Holcim Foundation winning proposal could very well transform life in that region as the Sahara green wall shelterbelt is planted across the African continent. The possibilities are endless as the quality of life will improve for so many along the Sahara.
