Editor's note: Our biweekly post swap with GNMParents continues today with some thoughts from editor Stu Mark on living green the lazy way. Be sure to check out Jennifer Lance's post at GNMParents, also.

I admit it: I'm not overly Green.

I should be, especially as I write a column over at GNMParents, the same place that has a regular column called "A Little Greener." I mean, c'mon, it's like now I *have* to be Green. Or at least make an attempt, right?

Not that I don't want to be Green, quite the contrary - I would love to be completely Green. But I am incredibly, monumentally, universally lazy.

Yes, I recycle, but only because it's the law. If it wasn't, I really don't know if I would keep doing it. I'd like to think that I would, but I'm lazy. I also don't keep a compost heap - again, there's that pesky laziness rearing its head.

But that doesn't mean I can't be just a tiny bit Green. Especially if it's as easy as parting with some green.

First, the detective work, which was a breeze. I started with my kids' school. Was there a Green program to support there? Turns out there was a teacher who was privately funding recycling boxes for cans and bottles. After a quick check at the school's main office, I found out the teacher's name and email address.

Next came the email writing, not that hard - Does your recycling program need extra funding? Less than ten words. His reply was one - Yes! So I wrote a check, dropped it off at the school, and next year there will be many more recycling boxes on campus.

That makes me a little Green, right? And it wasn't much of an effort. In fact, that's the point here: It doesn't take a lot of effort to help the Earth get back to normal. And most folks who are reading these words can afford to make some sort of donation to a local Green project. And if you can't afford money, how about donating some of the stuff in the back of the garage: books, clothes, etc. Not quite as easy as writing a check, but not near as much work as a compost heap.

Ok, I'm really avoiding this compost thing. Maybe I need to let go of my lazy just a little.
