Green Options is Looking for a Contract Ad Sales Representative
Green Options Media is looking for an experienced and effective ad sales representative for our portfolio of green lifestyle blogs and web tools.
Your expertise and energy will help us succeed in our mission to provide information and decision-making tools for consumers as they choose options for more sustainable lifestyles.
Green Options Media provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to an early-stage company and to put your professional skills to use in ways that do good for others and the environment.
If you are highly motivated and experienced online advertising sales representative, who wants to make a big impact in your career and in the world, Green Options is for you.
About Green Options Media:
Launched in February 2007, GreenOptions.com helps everyone to live a greener life, wherever they are starting from, without preaching or condescending. In November, Green Options Media was expanded to a network of green blogs with topic experts posting about real world issues and life experiences. See the header bar of greenoptions.com for links to the other 14 blogs in the Network. Each blog has multiple authors and daily posts, and all are managed by an experienced editorial team.
Our Culture:
While we see the need for innovative solutions to our (the world’s) problems, we are not treehuggers or hippies per se. We believe market-based solutions are the key to reaching true sustainability. We’ve tried government and policy work and have seen the lack of success that intelligent, well-meaning people have had at effecting change; we are entrepreneurs supporting change at the individual level, knowing that through the emerging possibilities of the Internet, we can make a significant difference.
We are passionate about what we are doing and are highly cooperative, using web-based collaboration tools for efficiency. As a team of self-motivated professionals with diverse skills, we expect everyone to both take responsibility for specific projects and demonstrate leadership, but to also share information widely and to take input from the rest of the team.
Initial Responsibilities
• Develop new advertising prospects through cold calling, your personal network, attending networking events, and other marketing initiatives (to be supported by the Green Options Media marketing team)
• Complete proposals, negotiate sales, and close ad buys
• Evaluate results and performance for clients and provide advice for optimizing campaigns
• Participate in strategy sessions with the Green Options Media team to provide high value for advertising clients
• Manage ad client relationships for optimal satisfaction
Necessary Skills and Characteristics:
Because you will be key to increasing our revenue and helping us build the company, your ambition and creativity will shine. You will be self-directed much of the time but will be joining an experienced ad sales director and our team of marketing and editorial professionals, so excellent people skills are important.
At least two years of ad sales experience with a verifiable track record are required.
Since we are a technology-based and collaborative company, you will have knowledge of, and ideally experience in using, 37 Signals online tools (particularly Basecamp) as well as Google Docs. You should be comfortable with RSS feeds, and ideally use them to keep up on daily news in your personal life.
And, perhaps it goes without saying, but your love of the environment and a passion for helping more and more people “green” their lives should be evident to all around you.
Growth Opportunities:
We are a young and highly ambitious group. As you help us grow, you can hire support for your areas of responsibility and manage a larger portion of the operations.
Compensation:
This is a contract position (at least initially) with compensation established to reward your results.
How to Apply:
Please send a resume with cover letter explaining why you can more than excel in this position to adsaleshiring@greenoptions.com (Only submissions with letters can be considered.)
Green Options is Looking for a Full-time Web Designer
GreenWeb, Inc., the parent company of Green Options Media and a soon-to-be-launched web app for the solar energy industry, is looking for an experienced and strategic designer to help build its portfolio of green businesses.
Your expertise and creativity will build the Green Options brands and those of our network properties. Your clean, simple designs will ensure the best possible user experience and will help spread the word about our growing number of content sites and online tools. We are a young company with a big vision and mission to break down the barriers that keep people from adopting sustainable lifestyles, so this is a position with enormous growth potential. Ideally, you will join us in our San Francisco office on a full-time basis.
If you are a personable and talented designer who has worked in one or more technology start-up(s) and who now wants to apply your skills to make a positive impact on the environment and how people interact with it, GreenWeb is for you.
About GreenWeb, Inc. and Green Options Media:
Launched in February 2007, GreenOptions.com was created to help everyone live a more sustainable life, from wherever they are starting, without preaching or condescending. In November 2007, we created the first green blog network, which currently includes ten sites, but will be expanding throughout 2008. We are also about to launch our first web application and have plans to add even more information and tools for those who want to live a more eco-friendly life without breaking the bank or living in a cave.
Our Culture:
While we see the need for innovative solutions to our (the world’s) problems, we are not treehuggers or hippies per se. We believe market-based solutions are the key to reaching true sustainability. We’ve tried government and policy work and have seen the lack of success that intelligent, well-meaning people have had at affecting change in those realms; we are entrepreneurs supporting change at the individual level, knowing that through the emerging possibilities of the Internet, we can make a significant difference.
Design & Responsibilities
In addition to designing visual identity and branding packages for new blogs launching in the network, you will design features and pages encouraging user interaction and providing more services for green choices. Please have experience in designing easy-to-use user interfaces as we will call on you to develop attractive and intuitive interfaces for upcoming online tools. And because we are a startup and are always working on attracting more users, please have experience designing compelling advertising as well.
You will work most closely with the founder and management team and will have a major impact on the growth of the company.
As our first full-time in-house designer, you will have a major say in the direction of our brands and of the systems we will be refining to support major growth.
If you are a talented, practical, and friendly person, you will thrive at GreenWeb and have a lot of fun too.
Necessary Skills and Characteristics
We can’t wait to see your portfolio. We are looking for eye-catching and effective visual communications, preferably with examples of designing for Web 2.0 sites.
We are looking for someone who lives and breathes standard compliance in all of their CSS and XHTML and who is a forward-thinking person who designs with expansion in mind. Strong organizational skills and a strong commitment to meeting deadlines are a must.
Because we are a team of ten people and don’t have room for people who don’t blend in with the team, you will need excellent people skills and an understanding of group dynamics.
Since we are a technology-based and collaborative company, you will have knowledge of, and ideally experience in using, 37 Signals online tools (including Basecamp, Campfire, and High Rise) as well as Google Docs. You should prefer to get your news through RSS, and if you’re the right person for this job, you’re probably always thinking of new ways that syndication can be used to further marketing and editorial goals.
If you are ambitious but also a team player, you will do well. If you enjoy working on a variety of projects in a fast-paced environment, getting satisfaction from problem-solving when obstacles arise, you will be valued for your results and attitude.
And, perhaps it goes without saying, but your love of the environment and a passion for helping more and more people “green” their lives should be evident to all around you.
Growth Opportunities
We are a young and highly ambitious group. If you become and employee and help us grow over time, you can hire more designers and manage a larger portion of the operations.
Compensation and Benefits
We offer health, dental and vision benefits and plan to offer a 401k plan by the end of the year.
How to Apply
Please send a resume and portfolio with cover letter explaining why you can more than excel in this position to HR@greenoptions.com. (Only submissions with letters can be considered.)
Thank you for your interest!
