Bikini season is fast approaching, and we’ve got plenty of sexy options to share. Aaron Chang is one of our favorites as he is the pioneer of eco beachwear. Chang is not only a green swimsuit designer, he is also a talented surf photographer. His suits are reversible and as colorful as his photos, and the best part is that they’re made from recycled plastic bottle fiber.

I adore these DAKINE Spring 2009 Project Blue Surf Packs. Each pack is made out of 100% recycled plastic bottles with partial proceeds benefiting The Surfrider Foundation.

“Our new project BLUE surf packs not only help raise awareness and support for The Surfrider Foundation, but the packs also incorporate recycled materials that would otherwise end up as waste in our landfills…Protecting the environment is a priority for DAKINE; each season we look forward to expanding our use of recycled materials throughout the line” said Dave Bisset, Dakine Director of Product.

Most of the major surf brands are joining project BLUE . Check out the Surfrider blog too.

H&M reports they will increase organic cotton use in their fashion collections by 50% in 2009.

Mainstream brands have embraced organic collections season after season over the past several years, but H&M is leading the way for their competitors this year as they commit to switching a large portion of their manufacturing processes toward organics. My hope is that H&M will stitch to 100% organic cotton for their collections, because this will not only give them a sustainable competitive advantage but also set the stage internationally for the complete switch to organic cotton textile production.

Carry Eco bags are an environmentally-friendly alternative to paper and plastic ones, the bags are offered in many pattern and color schemes, and made of 100% recycled bottles as strong as water-repellent canvas. Not only are the Carry Eco bags manufactured using sustainable materials and procedures, they are also ethically audited.

A chic tote that is durable, replaces disposable bags, looks good, and lasts. The carry-all fold-up totes are under thirteen dollars and come in a variety of designs. For the price and look of this line I’d say these make a great gift for creative kids with art supplies, Moms with babies, beach combers, farmers market and flea market fanatics and anyone who loves bright colors. The large capacity bag nicely folds into its own interior pocket. It easily goes from beach to town, for anything like picnics, shopping, laundry, or as a colorful accessory to that hot summer sun dress.
