<p>As the <a href="http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/COMPANY/PROFILE/ALLIANCE/RENAULT01/index.html" target="_blank">Nissan-Renault</a> Alliance <a href="http://gas2.org/2009/04/28/west-coast-electric-car-corridor-taking-shape-as-nissan-adds-seattle-partnership/" target="_blank">works feverishly towards the goal of launching an entire lineup of electric cars in the next few years</a>, they have begun to set their sights on the nitty gritty of supplying parts for the endeavor. And when you&#8217;re talking about Nissan&#8217;s <a href="http://gas2.org/2008/04/23/affordable-electric-cars-coming-to-us-in-2009/">electric cars</a>, the most important part that comes to mind is, of course, the advanced lithium-ion battery.</p>

In a recent and similar move, the U.S. <a href="http://inspiredeconomist.com/2008/10/17/american-lithium-ion-battery-maker-purchases-korean-competitor/" target="_self">lithium-ion battery</a> industry has formed the <a href="http://www.anl.gov/Media_Center/News/2008/news081218.html" target="_blank">National Alliance for Advanced Transportation Battery Cell Manufacture</a>, which they are thankfully just calling the “Alliance” for the sake of brevity, to support the development and manufacture of new battery technology for hybrid and electric vehicles and to maintain a competitive edge against the Asian companies currently dominating the market.</h4>
