Picture a bowling alley, and you likely come up with images of tacky shoes, greasy food, and lots and lots of beer bottles. Energy efficiency, reuse and recycling, and local food probably don’t come to mind at all — we’re talking about The Big Lebowski, not Garbage Warrior. Brooklyn Bowl, which opened in July in New York City’s Williamsburg neighborhood, is out to change those associations, though. On Tuesday, the bowling center, music venue, and restaurant got a boost in those efforts from the U.S. Green Building Council, which awarded Brooklyn Bowl LEED certification.

So, what’s does it take to get a bowling alley certified as a green building?

Bamboo lanes? Organic cotton bowling shirts? Low-VOC antiseptic spray for the rented shoes? Nope… Brooklyn Bowl took practical steps to create a chic entertainment venue with a low impact.

Recently featured on MSNBC, model and student of art & cosmetology, Spirit Demerson has long been concerned about the environment and interested in beauty. She used to concoct her own natural fragrances, lotions & scrubs in her kitchen and she’s been the “go-to” beauty girl in her circle of friends, family & colleagues for years. Frusterated about having to send them in a dozen different directions, she decided to open up shop online. After years of research (and obsession) her dream of opening her very own “beauty lounge” came to fruition last month.

Very recently, I was reading some of the online journals j’adore, and joyfully discovered UluruNYC.com via Nimitalk, where the amazing clothing designer explains the great intent in each silhouette, seam, and detail,

stating the work as “slow. sculptural. sentimental...I believe that less is more. I believe clothing speaks your identity and that your identity should be yours;
