Attack The Ingredient Not The Brand – Is Burt’s Bees’ New Campaign On The Right Track?

burts-bees-ad.jpgBurts Bees and their corporate parent, Clorox, will launch a new advertising campaign this month :

Burt’s Bees will debut a breakthrough advertising campaign, “Natural Vs.” in early February 2008. Created to address confusion among consumers over what constitutes a truly natural product, …each (ad will) depict the difference between benefits of natural ingredients in Burt’s Bees products vs. the surprising — even shocking — ingredients found in non-natural personal care products.

The two ads are specific in naming ingredients found in competitive products. The lip balm ad defines petroleum, found in many lip care products, as a “nonrenewable hydrocarbon made from crude oil… sometimes used to stop corrosion on car batteries.”

Organic, Cotton Clothing for Children From Happy Green Bee

4.jpgSix years ago, when my daughter was a baby, there was very little available in organic, affordable clothing for children. Thankfully, that has changed. A new company called Happy Green Bee is offering organic, fair trade, sustainably produced cotton clothing for infants and toddlers. The company was founded by mother, conservationist, and Burt’s Bees founder Roxanne Quimby.

Happy Green Bee clothing comes in bright, colorful patterns. Not only is their clothing line cheerful, comfortable, and playful, but it is also ecologically responsible. Founder Roxanne Quimby explains,

We created Happy Green Bee so that a child can be a child, first and foremost. By using organic cotton, a comfortable and practical fabric, and simple bee-striped patterns, children feel as comfortable as they look, while their parents take a small step in making a big difference in the environment their children will live in.
