This was too good to pass up. It’s a tale of intrigue, exciting new technology, and a secretive business deal that could change the automotive industry as we know it. Canadian electric car company Zenn Cars already sells city-only electric cars, but they claim they’ll sell a new model in 2009 that can go 80mph with a 250 mile range.
So what makes Zenn Cars special among the EV contenders? They’ve thrown their money behind a different kind of battery. Solid-state super capacitors (not technically batteries) supposedly last longer, store more energy, and cause less ecological harm than lithium-ion or lead-based batteries. This is where the story gets interesting.

Well, it could be a car, or a motorcycle, but its designers have decided to call it a Road Streamliner.
The vehicle, tagged the Acabion GTBO has the power-to-weight ratio of a Formula One car, and can reach 300mph in 30 seconds. The Swiss maker says it could be in production and on the road in three years.
I wonder whose roads he’s talking about.

Not satisfied to “go carless,” or even have a carectomy performed, University of Wisconsin Ph.D. candidate David Zaks has announced his plans to divorce his car. Fortunately, the car is taking it well, and moving on… to New Orleans, in fact, to help out with post-Katrina reconstruction efforts. Help David finalize his divorce… we all need support at times like these.

27 year old Joe Harmon and several students from North Carolina State University wanted to see if it was possible to build a performance car out of wood.
It may not be in the showroom soon, but their creation, the Splinter (what else?), with a top speed of 240 mph, should be completed this year.

In a recent article on public transportation, Miranda Newsom commented that carshare programs are an excellent transportation option for environmentally conscious and money wise urbanites. Here, we follow up on the carshare option. So, the question becomes…
Toyota Prius Tuesdays and Ford Escape Hybrid Fridays?
What if you could drive a different car each day of the week? Carshare programs make this possible and often even beat the price of owning a car. Carshare members can experience both the freedom of living without a car, which increases interest in public transportation, and the freedom of having a car.
The outcome is more public transportation friendly cities, less congestion, and less auto exhaust pollution. But just who would want to participate in such a program? What are the advantages and what are the drawbacks?
And the folks at Earth2Tech were there to snap some pictures (like the one above). A sweet ride that’s all electric…

On Tuesday, I turned the keys back over to the company that handles press cars for GM. I enjoyed my time giving the vehicle a spin, and look forward to the release of the 2008 model, which will incorporate the
