There will be a meeting at the Building Inspection Commission today to vote on a SF city amendment which is attempting to make it more complicated for city residents to recycle and conserve our own water.

Time: Wed, Oct 21, pm @ 2pm

Where: SF City Hall, Room 416

Rain barrels made from recycled food grade containers for water conservation.

The Board heard hours of impassioned public comment in support of implementing the city’s desperately needed Bike Network; they voted unanimously this afternoon to approve the Bike Plan EIR and finally adopt the complete Bike Plan.

Critical Mass in San Francisco

Those were the words that I heard exclaimed by a young man on a blue Schwinn ten-speed as thousands of my fellow bicyclists and I came pouring out of the Stockton Tunnel during Critical Mass last Friday. He seemed a little overwhelmed and thrilled by the endless throbbing swarm of bicyclists that were flowing past.

Today San Francisco’s Land Use and Economic Development Committee just announced that the city’s long-awaited Bike Plan will finally begin to be implemented this June. This is incredibly great news for the thousands of bicyclists who commute in our city every day. As you may already know, the city-wide Bike Plan has been held up for nearly three years by a fatuous lawsuit and injunction, which has prevented the city from making any Bike Network improvements whatsoever, even something as basic as installing a simple bike rack.

San Francisco City Hall Christmas Tree

Last week I rode my bike to San Francisco’s City Hall to see Bill Basquin’s art show at Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi’s office; as I pedaled up through Civic Center Plaza my gut wrenched as I saw the large empty space where the beautiful City Hall Victory Garden used to be. All that is left where the native flowers, organic fruits and vegetables recently flourished is a lonely Christmas tree.
