The Other Shoe - Flash Drives Prices Plummet

This is a guest post by John Simonetta, owner of an eco-friendly promotional items consultancy (see proformagreen.com). John’s blogs are designed to keep us up to date on the “greening” of his industry.

Quick note. Did you here that. As I mentioned earlier we have been expecting the price of flash drives - both traditional and eco-friendly PET, Recycled PVC, WoodenBamboo - to drop because of the glut of flash memory coming to market as the sale of retail electronics is hit by the economic downturn.

Well just in time for the holidays here comes the drop. Basic drives with one color logo are now going EQP $6.50 for 1GB drives or less, EQP $8.25 for 2GB and EQP $13.51 for 4GB from most suppliers. If you have been thinking about drives for your 2008 year end gifts or for 2009 1st quarter marketing projects now is the time to contact your friendly neighborhood promotional items company. US Flash, US Modular, PNY, FlashDirectHirsch Gift (great green drives) you name the company and they are running sales, the bottom is slipping out of the market.

100% Recycled PVC Flash Drives, Ideas from PPAI Tradeshow

There were a number of green and eco-friendly flash drives on display at the Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) event in Fort Worth last weekend including the T530 Riclado made from 100% Recycled PVC and show at the event by Hirsch Gift.

Hirsch lists these items as being made from post-consumer materials that have completed their life cycle and would otherwise have been disposed of as solid waste.

Hirsch also points out the T530 casing is manufactured with post-consumer recyclables collected in commercial & residential recycling programs. That is a nice touch for Ecopreneurists looking for a local tie-in.

Of course I am assuming the PVC is a fungible commodity so although the PVC comes from commercial & residential recycling programs there is no telling if they come from your local commercial & residential recycling programs.

Like most flash drives the T530 is RoHS compliant.

Hirsch was also showing off their cherry wood and bamboo drives.

Green Is The Theme For Convention

This is a guest post by John Simonetta, owner of ProformaGreen, an eco-friendly promotional items consultancy. John’s blogs are designed to keep us up to date on the “greening” of his industry. This week John is writing about his experiences at his national convention…

I am at the Proforma national convention this week, a gathering of our sales folks in Orlando, Florida. It is a once a year chance to meet one-on-one with most of the top manufacturers in the promotional items and print industry. While here I hope to give short daily updates on what is going on from an Ecopreneurist perspective.

Owl BackpackGreen is certainly a strong theme at this year’s meeting with many vendors bringing new green items to the event. The Proforma event bag this year was even green - each member of the convention was given a Recycled Owl Deluxe Backpack made from 100% post-consumer recycled material- to hold our event training materials. These bags are made by Leed’s and are part of their Owl line of bags made from recycled water bottles and yogurt containers.
