Recognized as one of the US’s 100 best gold courses (Golf Digest), the ‘Sanctuary’ will once again host the 5th annual Water For People Golf Classic on August 19, 2009. Situated in Sedalia, Colorado, and adjacent to over 12, 000 acres of protected open space, the Sanctuary was carefully designed and “placed” within one of the most fragile and beautiful ecosystems in the State, if not the entire country.

The private course offers stunning 180 degree vistas of Pike’s Peak (southward) and Long’s Peak (northward) and is home to some of the tallest pines in the State. To preserve its core beauty and “balance with Nature”, the Sanctuary permits only 9,000 rounds of golf annually, and the majority of these are for charity fund-raising tournaments.

I can’t believe I’m writing an article about Justin Timberlake. On Saturday, the 27-year-old actor and singer opened the first LEED Platinum certified golf course in the United States.

The multi-talented Timberlake’s latest business venture, Mirimichi Lakes golf club in North Shelby County, Tennessee, opened Saturday after Timberlake christened the course with a 291-yard drive crushed down the middle of the fairway, after which, the singer and actor grinned and said, “nobody’s happier about this course.”

Fastskinz Turns Your Car Into a Golfball, Increases Gas Mileage 20%?

Have you ever wanted to drive a golf ball? And no, I don’t mean hit it with a driver down the fairway in hopes of a hole-in-one. I mean get behind the wheel of a car covered in dimples which replicate the skin of a golf ball.

That’s the idea behind the Fastskinz MPG-Plus car wrap, which claims to increase gas mileage by as much 20% and in the process reskins your car to look like a four-wheeled, car-shaped golf ball. Popular Mechanics decided to put the Fastskinz MPG-Plus to the test and see if the claims of greater fuel efficiency are for real, or just a bogus marketing scheme.

The Volkswagen Golf was chosen as the 2009 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show by a jury of 59 international automotive journalists.

“It is a tremendous honor for Volkswagen to have its global best selling model, the Golf, named the 2009 World Car of the Year. This is a great way to kick-off the new Golf here in America. We’re excited for the arrival of the sixth generation Golf, which will be in Volkswagen showrooms later this year. Simply put, we believe this is the best Golf ever.” - Stefan Jacoby, President/CEO, Volkswagen of America, Inc

This is a guest post by John Simonetta, owner of an eco-friendly promotional items consultancy (see proformagreen.com). John’s blogs are designed to keep us up to date on the “greening” of his industry.

Like our other vendors Norwood is coming out strong with numerous new green and eco-friendly products for 2009.

Norwood is one of the largest names in our industry and I am happy to see they are going green in a big way.

Take a look at this crazy use of recycled fabric that Norwood is now selling. Yes, that is a Wilson lightweight golf bag made from 100% recycled fabric. Norwood’s website boasts “eco-conscious golfers can feel confident with their game while helping the environment”.

I have to tell you that the closest I get to a golf course is the Nintendo WII with my nephews. Like many green thinkers I believe that a traditional golf course uses a bit too much land and way too much water, normally in places with little of both to spare.

Despite pleas from environmentalists and wildlife groups, the Scottish government has approved Donald Trump’s plans for a $1.5 billion golf resort along the Aberdeenshire coastline, an area previously designated as a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest.’

The government defends the decision by pointing to the hundreds of jobs the 2,000-acre facility will create amid a damaged economy. The facility is expected to generate $100 million annually for the Aberdeenshire community.

The government has essentially given Trump free reign to do what he’d like with the land with little-to-no environmental supervision. Wildlife groups had hoped to form a compromise, but instead, Trump’s development will not be required take the wildlife habitat into account whatsoever.

Diesel Hybrid Electric Golf Doesn’t Make it out of the Showroom

It looks like VW won’t be sending a diesel hybrid to the US after all. VW announced the 70 MPG diesel-hybrid electric Golf at the Geneva Motor Show, but turned around in the March 27 edition of Auto, Motor und Sport to say they wouldn’t be building the car because it would be “too expensive.”
