General Motors has revealed that it is still on-track to bring a hydrogen fuel-cell car to market, within the next three years.

Industry insiders had speculated that the imminent retirement of existing boss Larry Burns would lead to the fuel-cell program being mothballed, but according to new R&D chief Alan Taub, GM will continue with its development of the technology.

“Technology leadership is one of the pillars of the company,” said Taub. “That is going to remain, and it will probably be emphasised as part of the brand of GM.”

Rumors are gathering pace that Toyota is working on a two-door coupe version of its ultra-popular Prius hybrid, possibly scheduled to hit the market sometime in 2012.

The latest reports suggest that the Japanese outfit is currently developing a compact 2+2 Prius-based hybrid sports coupe featuring a beefed-up version of its 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE four-cylinder engine, capable of achieving around 134 hp – 36 hp more than the sedan counterpart.

Although the higher power levels are likely to affect the Prius’s impressive fuel mileage, insiders are speculating that the company’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system will keep this to a minimum.

Struggling Indian car company Tata Motors has announced the commercial launch of the Tata Nano, the most fuel-efficient petrol-driven car in India, and quite possibly the world.

The Tata Nano, keenly anticipated across India since its unveiling early last year, is capable of an incredible 23.6km/litre (55.5 mpg) and ultra-low carbon emissions of 101 g/km, one of the lowest in India. Oh, and with prices starting at about 100,000 rupees ($2,050), it’s also the cheapest car in the world (more pics after the jump).

Can you feel it? There's electricity in the air! And I'm not talking about all the solar energy falling from the sky and hitting your roof, wishing to get converted to electricity…

No, what you're feeling is a rush of information getting unleashed into the public sphere of cyberspace. For the past month, Green Options has been in private beta mode; only a select few have had the chance to watch our media machine gear up for launch. But today, February 5th, 2007, as of 10:00 am PST/1:00 pm EST, it's all open to the public!

I'm incredibly excited to let you all in to peruse the content our writers have worked hard to build up over the last month. In fact, anyone who reads it all in one sitting and proves it to me gets a crisp 5 dollar bill! I'm prepared to offer that hefty sum because I know it can't be done.

Green Options is a labor of love, and we're proud of the site's design and content, but we're also pretty sure it's not perfect yet. We'll constantly be making improvements and adding features, so general feedback of any kind is always welcome. If you find a specific bug as you're browsing around, you can always click on the ladybug in the bottom lefthand corner of the screen to report it in our Tech Support Forum. If you have praise or congratulations to heap on us, just add a comment to this post, so everyone can see!

We hope you enjoy what we've put together, and we can't wait to help you start 'Greening the Good Life!' Welcome to Green Options!
