We’ve written extensively here at Red, Green, and Blue about how John McCain’s claims of supporting renewable energy contradict his voting record in the Senate. Thankfully, we’re not the only ones who have noticed that when McCain says “of course I support alternative energy,” he really means he supports the idea of them, but that the market should be left to determine their future; the League of Conservation Voters has just come out with a new ad poking at McCain’s renewables rhetoric. Watch it:

Michigan is one of several key ’swing states’ in the upcoming presidential election, and John McCain knows it. The debates going on within state of Michigan encapsulate some of the most salient political, economic, and social questions being discussed across the country this campaign season. No state has seen a more precipitous decline in economic well-being than Michigan. And perhaps no state would benefit more from an energy policy that would promote changes in our infrastructure, including an emphasis on plug-in vehicles, a renewed focus on rail transit, and substantial growth in renewable energy.

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, today added Congressman Sam Graves (MO-6) and California developer Dean Andal to its 2008 “Dirty Dozen” list. Compiled annually, the Dirty Dozen targets current and former members of Congress - regardless of party affiliation - who consistently vote against the environment and are running in races where LCV has a serious chance of affecting the outcome.

Andal has an abysmal record on energy and environmental issues make him one of the worst candidates for federal office in the nation, according to the LCV. The LCV refers to Andal as “the new Pombo,” in reference to former Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee and foe of the environmental movement, Richard Pombo.
