This is a guest post by John Simonetta, owner of Proforma Simonetta Freelance, an eco-friendly promotional items consultancy (see proformagreen.com). John’s blogs are designed to keep us up to date on the “greening” of his industry.

Readers may have noticed that in my last few posts I have been focusing on promotional items that can be used by Ecopreneurists for marketing in two rather large October events, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Halloween.

Both of these events can provide Ecopreneurists an opportunity to involve themselves in their local community, while also raising awareness of their services.

Indeed our office just donated custom printed biodegradable Halloween bags to the Denver Children’s Museum for their Trick or Treat Street event. (FYI Denver Children’s Museum is still looking for an additional 3,000 bags, if anyone is interested in sponsoring them please email me directly). I am sure every Ecopreneurist can find deserving organizations to support in their own communities.

Anyway, to help us all out with ideas, Raining Rose - the first in the promotional items industry to offer a USDA certified organic promotional lip balm - is getting ready for October by introducing several new Breast Cancer Awareness theme and Halloween theme lip balm background art wraps ready for the addition of your company’s logo and contact information (see all wraps here).

This is a guest post by John Simonetta, owner of Proforma Simonetta Freelance, an eco-friendly promotional items consultancy (see proformagreen.com). John’s blogs are designed to keep us up to date on the “greening” of his industry.

Raining Rose - the first in the promotional items industry to offer a USDA certified organic promotional lip balm - is getting ready for the 4th of July celebrations in the US by releasing three new lip balm wraps ready for the addition of your company’s logo and contact information.

Many lip balms claim to be organic but the USDA certified organic promotional lip balm from Raining Rose is the only promotional lip balm I know of that is certified to put the USDA seal on their high quality product.

Why? Let’s look at the ingredients: organic palm oil, organic beeswax, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic essential oil of peppermint, organic hemp seed oil, organic essential oil of spearmint, vitamin E. That is it.

Raining Rose also offers a standard SPF 15 and SPF 30 lip balm which are 66% organic and come in a numbers of flavors such as Iced Pear, Cherry, Citrus, Coconut, Grape, and Lemonade. (FYI - Lemonade ingredients would be organic palm oil, beeswax, organic extra virgin olive oil, flavor or essential oil, organic hemp seed oil, vitamin E, rosemary extract.)

All Raining Rose products are made in the USA and made on location in their FDA audited facility. All products have their ingredients listed on the Raining Rose website (try that, Kraft Foods). All casings are made from 30% biodegradable plastic. And if you are ASI, PPAI or SAGE and want to test out their products just ask.

For ecopreneurists wanting a lip smacking summer marketing tool these customizable lip balms are a great idea. Clients really seem to appreciate their quality and Raining Rose can print labels with any artwork that you can design. Plus they offer a number of theme templates, like these 4th of July labels.

Ecopreneurists will find these products are great giveaways at trade shows, festivals, concert events, company picnics, beach events, you name it.

EQP on standard lip balms is $0.90 at 5,000 units. EQP on the USDA certified organic promotional lip balm is $1.90 also at 5,000. Minimum runs for each are as few as 250 units.

If you are in the promotions business contact Lisa Wagner at Raining Rose for more information on their products and special wraps for the 4th of July. If you are interested in these items to promote your own business contact your local promotional items vendor or email info@proformagreen.com for information and pricing.

Packed with vitamin E, shea butter and jojoba oil to keep delicate lips in top form. Innovative soft-to-the-touch packaging makes them a pleasure to use and the cool sphere design is so utterly modern that you will leave them sitting around just for the pleasure of looking at them.

The line touts lotion sticks, lip balms and shower gels, to mention a few.

But their stand out product, in my humble opinion, has to be Pit Putty. This stuff really works and best of all, it’s aluminum-free. Like your typical organic deodorant this one controls odor, but unlike others it even seems to help keep you dry. It is made with organic arrowroot powder, which absorbs wetness and doesn’t cause skin irritation like baking soda can. Pit Putty also contains organic extra virgin coconut oil for moisture and essential oils to keep you smelling nice. Comes in two scents; Lemon and Clove (unisex) and Geranium Lime (more girly).

Crazy Rumors vegan-friendly lip balms have come out with a new line to compliment their coffee and tea flavors. A La Mode Lip Balms combine the most

delicious ice cream flavors with nature’s most moisturizing ingredients for a totally sweet experience.

Available in six luscious flavors, like Banana Split and Mint Chocolate, these fun little balms will keep lips moisturized and are good for you and the environment. Made with organic Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil for maximum softness (without the ”greasies”) and vitamin enriched. A hint of natural Stevia makes them super yummy!

Ditch the prescription and pucker up!

This is going to be short, but it’s good and it matters. Balms with Benefits is the rockin-est thing to hit the shelves in ages. It’s a simple concept, you get a lip balm and add quality aromatherapy to it so that the loveliness on your lips cures what ails you.

I’m sure it’s been done before, but I doubt it’s been done like this. My kids and I got all eight flavors in the mail last week. They’re pretty. Don’t discount pretty, pretty matters. Alexander and Jane were immediately taken by the rainbow of colors, they removed each lid and sniffed.

And then the horrible happened. Alexander (age seven) said, “Mom, what’s PMS?”

*sigh*

So we had a little talk about why Mommy feels compelled to wash the windows every month while shrieking, “dont’ touch anything!”

Truth be told, I ditched the PMS tube, because without it I’d never clean up around here.

These products are free of artificial colors, fragrances, parabens, and SLS. They are not tested on animals and contain natural ingredients such as tea tree oil, aloe, nettles, and burdock root. Each product features an endangered species, so children can learn about animals while they practice good hygiene habits.

My family has tested out seven of the nine new Kiss My Face Kids Collection. The following product reviews combine my daughter’s and my own perspectives:

Kiss My Face Kids Shampoo & Bodywash: This product is very sudsy, which kids enjoy, and the bottle makes it very easy for children to use themselves promoting their independence. My son, who has very sensitive skin, is able to tolerate this product, and my daughter was the one who discovered you squeeze the bottle to get the soap out.

Have I mentioned I’m a lip balm addict??? Yes, I do confess. I have more lip balms than I can count on two hands, but you won’t find me recommending every lip product on the planet. Because frankly, I do have my standards. They must not be greasy, disappear in a few minutes or be filled to the brim (or at all) with any petrochem nasties, artificial color or flavor.

But this is not a balm or gloss, it’s a lip conditioner perfect when in need of a little (or a lot) on-the-go pampering! When you’re in a suit or a cocktail dress, do you really want to be seen pulling out your ninety-nine cents tube of (hopefully not petroletum filled) lip balm? I didn’t think so. Why?

Two years is not long ago, yet seemingly perfect timing for a rather new awareness of conventional personal care product hazards. After all, the certification journey of organic foods was a battle in itself. The debate over whether skin care formulations could hold shelf-life with organic and natural ingredients followed.

It could be that I’ve just returned from a holiday in the tropics but I LOVE these organic & natural Spray Lotion Mists from Ola Hawaii. The sweet, zingy, fresh smell of pineapple + lime is super delish but there are all kinds of scents to choose from if citrus isn’t your thing.

Keep it stashed in your bag during Summer heat to spritz all over as a refreshing, light, easily applied moisture solution that will leave you smelling gorgeous. Pop the top, spray and voila! A great addition to any ‘must have’ list for Summer.
