SOLARIG, a company based in Spain that incorporated about four years ago, just began construction of eight photovoltaic parks in Italy this month. The parks will provide 8 MW of energy in total. Over the next few months, it plans to construct photovoltaic projects producing 30 MW throughout different regions of Italy.
But this is just the beginning. SOLARIG has a more global vision.

The remains of nearly 200 protected birds have been discovered in Malta. The Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) and the BirdLife Malta Raptor Camp located the carcasses under trash and stones in the woodland area of Mizieb. The organizations are currently running two separate migration and observation camps. Nearly 400 species of birds have been recorded on Malta, which is a central migration route across the Mediterranean.

The Ghadira Nature Reserve was attacked by arsonists in the first week of February.
A night watchman for the reserve called police early one morning after spotting huge flames in the north-west corner of the property. Police and fire personnel were on the scene quickly and extinguished the fire.

PG&E may be installing millions of smart meters in Northern California, but the nation of Malta (pop. 400,000) is about to become the world’s first smart grid island. IBM is building the island’s national smart grid network, which will consist of 250,000 smart meters placed in homes around the country.
