The Mediterranean diet is not only good for its more well-known reasons — protecting against heart disease and cancer. According to a new study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, the Mediterranean diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, nuts, and fish, may decrease risk of depression.

The Iberian lynx, at risk of extinction, may be reintroduced into the wild on low-production olive groves soon.

A study by Spanish scientists says this may be the most appropriate place for the cat.

The Ghadira Nature Reserve was attacked by arsonists in the first week of February.

A night watchman for the reserve called police early one morning after spotting huge flames in the north-west corner of the property. Police and fire personnel were on the scene quickly and extinguished the fire.

In a region that is already fraught with tensions over religion, ethnicity, water and power, natural gas is a combustible addition to the mix.

Lebanon and Israel have fought several wars in the past, and 2006 saw the breakout of further hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese militia. This, coupled with the lack of a maritime delimitation agreement between Israel and Lebanon means that the northern end of this gas reserve will almost undoubtedly become a source of further tension between these two neighbours.

My new goal is to eat at least one raw meal a day, and to transform my kitchen into an entirely raw one. I’ll be documenting the steps I’m talking, and go further into the reasons why in my next several posts.

My first step though is getting rid of all of the wonderful food I’ve got stored up, but will now be eating less of, like grains, beans, and soy products. I can’t think of a more delicious way to clean house than this red lentil recipe I created last night.

I’m still stuck on what to name this dish. My husband called it “Mediterr-Indian” because of the spices that borrow from both cultures. It’s pretty low on fat, and good for people with food allergies, as it’s nut, soy, and wheat free, and of course, vegan. The recipe for the lentils, and the roasted cauliflower after the jump:
