My mommy instincts told me playing on shredded tires was not good for my children’s health, but apparently the EPA lacks such intuition.  According to the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibilty (PEER), the EPA has admitted it does not know “the extent of childhood exposure from ingestion or inhalation of an array of toxic chemicals found within tires”.

Is the U.S. Interior Department wrongly withholding information that will reveal whether taxpayers are being ripped off in a controversial oil and gas royalty program? Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) see to think so, according to a lawsuit they filed today. Interior claims that disclosure of bidding and contracting information about its Royalty-In-Kind (RIK) sales would reveal oil company trade secrets.

Jeff Ruch, the Executive Director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) apparently thinks they can be useful as well. Ruch released a list of nine resolutions for the whistleblowing, watchdogging PEER for 2009.

On Thursday, Assistant Interior Secretary Lyle Laverty ordered the National Park Service to ease its existing mountain biking rules that some environmental groups claim could open up nearly 8 million acres of recommended or proposed wilderness lands in approximately 30 parks to mountain biking.
