Lush are famous for their fresh cosmetics, and for producing vegan, organic products for the most sensitive skins. So I was delighted to be reminded that at this time of year, when many of us are feeling pale and fragile, they have a product that gives the deep-cleansing goodness of a spa visit, without the cost, fuss or doubt about what’s being applied to your body.
I’m talking about the fizzing, mineral-packed bath bomb, Geo Phyzz. It’s got Hawaiian sea salt, blended mineral-rich volcanic clay all blended with seaweed, sandalwood and cypress. The scent of the product is not at all girly – it’s refreshing but not sweet and best enjoyed in a bath that’s not too hot, so you can imagine you’re lying on a tropical beach, inhaling the scents of the shoreline and the fragrance of tropical trees. Your masculine other half will find this treatment as pleasing to his nose as you do, so why not treat him to one?

The really good thing about this bath treatment though, is that the sea salt is slow-dissolving, so you can scoop it from the bottom of the bath as you recline and use it to massage any areas of your body that require some exfoliation, like those pale and puffy hips and thighs and those callused, hard-working winter feet!

Contains: Coarse Sea Salt, Hawaiian Sea Salt, Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Perfume, Cypress Oil (Cupressus sempervirens), Pine Absolute (Pinus), Sandalwood Oil (Santalum album), Seaweed Absolute (Fucus vesiculosus), *Limonene, *Linalool, Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), Colour 42045

* Occurs naturally in essential oils

With green living, homeopathy and natural alternatives growing in popularity, soap makers are springing up around the world, concocting magical creations of coconut and lime in gleaming, glycerin-infused goodness that cleanse the body, mind and soul.

Oh, and your hands too!

Growing up in my house, ‘handmade’ soap consisted of my mother gathering up all the remaining bits of bar soap from the shower and bathtubs, tossing them into a container with some water and shaking it up. “Voila, hand soap!” she would state proudly. But her objectives were to save money, not create a luxurious lather to soothe and soften the skin. And, trust me, an acrid amalgum of Dial and Irish Spring was anything but soothing!

But today’s handmade soaps are a beneficial blend of nourishing nutrients, rich with essential oils and alleviating aromatherapy that care for the skin and calm the senses. And because they’re chemical-free, they’re an eco-friendly alternative to their caustic counterparts, making them a great way to indulge yourself and the earth.

When my nails are freshly manicured, it somehow makes me feel more, well, polished. I hate walking out of poorly ventilated shops with a headache though. We all know that the ingredients in traditional polish is not good to inhale on a regular basis, but we slather it on anyway - guilty! I am totally guilty…

Until recently when I discovered the SpaRitual line at a little body shop, called Mountain Body, in Park City, Utah. With flavors like, Strawberry Fields Forever and Paradigm Shift (which I am currently admiring as I type!), you not only feel good about wearing the nail lacquer but empowered.
