Stephen Colbert Has New Species Named After Him

Researchers at Arizona State Univerity and the University of New Mexico have named a Venezuelan diving beetle Agaporomorphus colberti in honor of the humorist.

One of the outstanding features of the species is the genitalia of the males. “This new species is similar to members of a clade within the genus exemplified by A. knischi…and unique in having similar, extremely complicated male genitalia…”

Jay Keasling Visits Colbert, Discusses Converting Yeast into Fuel

Jay Keasling of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California visited Stephen Colbert last night, explaining that the same yeast that we use to produce beer and bread will soon be fueling our cars and planes.

Keith Olbermann jabs at a couple members of Congress (and allegedly, their aides) for what they were Twittering and what they were retracting during Barack Obama’s first address to a joint session of congress last night. Olbermann also gives two reasons why he isn’t personally on twitter: There are already enough people following him, and; he tried it but couldn’t figure it out.

City of San Jose Names Peregrine Falcon ‘Esteban Colbert’

There are a few different ways to get the much sought after Stephen “Colbert Bump,” from one of which is naming an animal after the faux-right wing kingmaker. And that is exactly what the City of San José has done by naming a male peregrine falcon recently San José City Hall, “Esteban Colbert”.

As it became apparent that the resident female’s mate from last year would not return for a second season in downtown San Jose, fans of the city’s Falcon Cam, installed on the roof of city hall a few years back, also noticed frequent visits from a new male suitor.

“I’m delighted that Esteban Colbert appeared at City Hall this week, and that he and Clara are hitting it off,” said San José Mayor Chuck Reed in a statement. Reed is reportedly an avid fan of Stephen Colbert’s Colbert Report. “Like the City Hall falcons, the original Colbert has proven that with primitive instincts and sharp talons, anyone can survive in modern society,” said Reed.
