Unvaccinated Children Cause Measles Outbreak

I found this article…a little inflammatory, don’t you think? Here’s what it says:

Some parents’ refusal to vaccinate children seems to be behind the highest rate of measles cases reported since 1996, federal officials said Thursday.

Between Jan. 1 and July 31 of this year, 131 measles cases have been reported in the United States, many of them among children whose parents have philosophical or religious objections to the vaccine, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey’s Green Childhood Vaccines: Oxymoron or a Possibilty?

Green our VaccinesMany parents are concerned about the safety of childhood vaccines, and my attention was caught by Mothering’s action alert about “Green Vaccines”. What the heck is a green vaccine? It sounds like an oxymoron to me.  Jenny McCarthy, spokesperson for Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), and Jim Carrey are calling for support of the Green Our Vaccines Rally for Autism.

On June 4, 2008, the Green Vaccines rally will be held in Washington, D.C. The rally cry is:

  • We are not anti-vaccine, we are anti-toxins.
  • Green our Vaccines!!
  • Change the schedule, babies are getting too much too soon.
  • We support informed consent for all families
  • To give the moms and dads around the world a day to be heard. This is their day. This will be their moment.

Spacing and Splitting Up Vaccinations – Not As Easy As It Seems

vaccine.jpgLike many of us, the more you learn about vaccines the more you run up against the perplexing question: To Vaccinate or Not to Vaccinate. Like me, you may have decided to vaccinate but not on schedule and not multiple vaccines at one time.

Now that the measles, mumps and rubella vaccines are combined into one shot, the MMR vaccine, avoiding those mega doses of vaccinations in one visit is a little harder. With a little ingenuity however, you can have the shot for each disease administered separately.
