Gluten-free Squash Pancakes

I recently stumbled upon a great recipe for Spaghetti Squash Pancakes from Mollie Katzen’s book, The Vegetable Dishes I Can’t Live Without. It’s a winner. Although the original recipe calls for spaghetti squash (quite delicious) and gives the option of using all-purpose flour or rice flour, the recipe can accommodate any kind of squash and a variety of gluten-free flours. The topping possibilities are also endless, giving you the option to play with flavor combinations. Happy eating!

Dr Dobbs’ Tomato Complexion Soap

I had the chance to sample Dr. Dobbs‘ Tomato Complexion Soap and I have to admit I was skeptical. I thought- Tomatoes? In soap? And this is supposed to do wonders for my skin? I don’t know about all that.

And then I tried it.

I am no longer skeptical. In fact I am ordering another bar…or two, right now.

I Am In Love with Goat’s Milk Soap from Indigo Wild

I’ve had the chance to review a lot of natural/green bath and beauty products over the past year but none of them have compared in the long run to Indigo Wild’s Zum Goat’s Milk Soap.

Create Your Own Dry Skin Remedy

For some of us, the season is a constant battle against dry, irritated skin.  Sure there are lots of heavy moisturizers out there, but it can be difficult to find the one that does the trick.  Some leave you too slippery, while others cast a strange chalky effect.  Certainly not what we are looking for during the most festive (and social) time of the year.

Now, I have written many an article here on Feelgood about dry skin and the many wonderful products on the market to help with this particular condition.  But (for those of you prone to plenty of natural oils) please bear with me, I think I am on to something here.

This latest concoction was something I stumbled upon over lack of time and forethought.  After exfoliating my body with a mixture of sugar and milk in the shower I went to apply my usual body lotion.  Realizing it would not be enough hydration for my freshly sloughed skin, I added a squirt of body oil.  Later that night I realized that my skin was still super silky and soft and well nourished.

Get Adobe Flash playerFirst Lady Michelle Obama cultivated a fresh vision heard around the world when she initiated a kitchen garden on the White House ground last spring.  But don’t think that as the snow flies this growing venture will dive into hibernation.  Thanks to the vision of Sam Kass, Food Initiative Coordinator at the White House and garden visionary, the First Family will be eating local through winter thanks to simple winter gardening tactics.

Eco- Friendly Holiday Cards

This weekend I am sitting down to address my Christmas cards and get them ready to be mailed out. At least that’s one thing that is one my to-do list.

It may or may not get done.

This year I am not sending out a whole lot of cards, these days I send a lot of electronic greetings to those who I have email addresses for. However for family and people whose emails I do not have I still send old fashioned greetings along with photos of the kids.

I do try to opt for the more eco-friendly greeting cards by choosing those made from recycled paper or even tree free paper.

Wondering where you can find these eco-greetings?

Cold Weather Skin Care for Sensitive Skin

Most get dry skin as winter approaches.  But for those with more sensitive skin – redness, irritation and even breakouts come with it.  I fall into this category and just stocked up on my winter skin care essentials.

The first thing we tend to pick up when combating dryness is a thicker moisturizer.  While this is the obvious choice, and a vital part of cold weather skin care, we need to take a look at our overall routine.  What type of product are you using to cleanse your face?  When skin is dry and irritated go with a cleanser that is mild and soothing, like Weleda Almond Cleansing Lotion.  And, unless you really need to, skip cleansing in the morning and either use warm water or a mild toner instead.
